It's listed as a picnic tote but I think I'd be using it for anything and everything. I am tempted, very tempted, to get it. Alas, 'tis the season of giving, not getting.
I am thankful for a great lunch I had today with some Wewa gals and their kiddos.
A packed weekend has passed and ushered us into a busy week.
Friday we headed out to Defuniak Springs, a town that is about two hours from us. A lady in Wewa told me about the awesome display of lights they put on at Christmas so we thought it would be fun to take Addie out to see them. Unfortunately, my little point and click camera was not enough to really capture how cool the lights were but we tried.
In Defuniak there is a round, spring-fed lake, apparently one of only two such lakes in the world. The other is in Zurich, Switzerland. Which, incidentally, I have flown over and into Zurich but, I digress. I'm not sure how big around the lake is, but there are lights around the entire lake. Strung around each and every tree, hanging from the trees and also displays of animals, Santa, trains, carolers, insects and other scenes. Rather than drive the tour, we parked and walked around the lake and among all of the lights. It was warm enough that we were able to forget about scarves and gloves and we took our time. It was pretty cool to look across the lake and see all of the lights reflected in the water. We did run into some ducks that scared us half to death. Aside from the Christmas lights there were very few other lights, which made seeing the decorations even better, but made noises in the night seem that much scarier.
While I was really excited for Addie to see the lights, she seemed less interested. She did like them and had fun looking at some of the "animals" up close, but she was intermittently whiny. I figured it was due to the short, one hour nap she took while in the car, which was about two hours shy of her normal naps of the past couple of weeks. Today I discovered she also has two new teeth peeking through, which could have contributed to her general fussiness over the weekend.
But, we had fun.
We spent part of Saturday helping serve lunch for those participating in the Junior Bible Quiz meet at church. It gave Addie a chance to run around and spend some time with lots of kiddos. Sunday was Sunday and now we are here at Monday, getting things done around the house so we can tackle the rest of the week.
Christmas music, check. Christmas lights, check. Christmas shopping done, check. Almost there...
I am thankful for a happy girl today and finally getting a clue into why she's been a little unhappy. Sometimes this mom can be a little clueless!
I'm delinquent in posting this but after seeing the photo you might understand why...
Stripes and polka dots, that's what the kids in our youth group chose for Sabian. They also wanted him to dye it red but the dye didn't really take. Hmm, too bad.
Thursday night Sabian and I went out on a date. In hindsight I would have planned it for earlier in the week. We also went out as a family yesterday and again, I might have been better at my planning had I remembered this was going to happen Wednesday night.
It hasn't been so bad, really, and our kids went above and beyond what we asked them to do - they raised over $200 for Speed the Light, which is pretty great.
Again, I am thankful that this new style will only be around for another few days.
Yeah, that's the guy I married.
No shave November started out normally, I guess. I figured in retaliation I would participate,too, but I really can't stand to have hairy legs. I caved, but Sabian did not. Our friend, Timbo, who came to our Thanksgiving (see pictures on that post) was also participating. In fact, he is still going strong and it is now December.
No shave November turned into a fundraiser for Speed the Light.
Speed the Light is a platform on which youth around the country can raise money that benefits our missionaries. It provides vehicles and other equipment for missionaries in the U.S. and other countries. We already met our goal for the year but Sabian challenged the kids a few weeks ago to raise $75 by tonight and he would allow them to dictate how he shaved his beard. He would have to wear their "design" for a week.
I'll post the results tomorrow.
I am thankful the kids did not decide to shave just one side of Sabian's face. I am even more thankful that he will totally shave in a week.
I think we're all saying it...is it really December? In less than a month we'll all be celebrating Christmas and a week after that...a new year. It just doesn't seem possible. But, it is and here we are.
December has ushered in cooler temperatures for the panhandle. It certainly isn't too bad by any means and I consider it a nice change of pace. The few days prior had been in the 70s but a little too humid for my taste. I do find it fitting that Addie and I made a trip to the beach yesterday morning, to get out of the house and run around, which happened to be the last day of November. Today it would be a bit too cool to tire her out at the beach so we went for the park.
I'll admit, it was chilly, but once we got moving we felt much better.
Now that Thanksgiving is over and the tree is up it is safe to listen to Christmas music. Our tunes of choice include Sufjan Stevens, Rosie Thomas, James Taylor and Josh Groban. Yes, Josh Groban. Don't judge me. I'm not a usual fan of his but I do like his Christmas CD. Oh, and Elise, if you are reading this, how is Phil Wickham? I have yet to download it.
So, the tree is up, the shopping that is going to get done is done (except for a couple of things for Addie), the Christmas cards arrived today, appropriately, and the weather is cooler. It is December.
I am thankful for having accomplished much so far this week and for the date Sabian and I will have tomorrow night!
